Part 1 – Determining what to make a website on
It never fails, the first question I always get asked when teaching someone about making money online is “What should I make a website about?”. There are several sources from which we can pull ideas to help us figure out what to make a website about. One of the most common suggestions is to make a website on a topic that you are passionate about, but that isn’t always the most efficient or fastest way to start making money. Another option is browsing Affiliate Networks such as Neverblue or ClickBank, at these places you can browse offers which you can promote for a commission of the sale.
Keeping to your interests
Now when it comes to your very first website, when you’re just learning the basic tasks of being a webmaster, it is in your best interest to make a website on a topic that you are actually interested in. Having to plow through content and information, researching keywords, developing article outlines and a bunch of other grunt work will involve the niche you are about to delve into. You can see that if you are a gamer you probably should steer clear of the celebrity news genre and vice-versa. Picking a topic that you are passionate about will help keep you interested and leave you with a good first impression of making a website.
Choosing to take the bum route
Now I call it the bum route but it does entail quite a bit of work making a site just for the money, the tasks include different things such as managing outsourced work and keeping all the pieces organized. To find a site idea that you just plan on making some cash from it’s best to first look at some emerging technology that others are monetizing, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and search affiliate networks like ClickBank, NeverBlue, or Commission Junction and find a product that is being pushed to the users of this new technology.
What you do once your pick the product you’re going to promote you do some basic keyword research to find about 5-8 keywords that articles could be made for. Next up your outsource those articles to a writer that is familiar with writing web content, once you have the articles you browse for a decent free website layout or Wordpress theme. Put them all together, add some pictures and there you have a brand new website set to promote an offer. A major step in the process is choosing a domain name.

Choosing a domain name
Getting the perfect domain for your website can be a daunting task, first you must decide what angle you are going to use for your domain name. A popular route for SEO purposes is using a keyword for the domain, for example “twitter-mass-unfollower.com” given “twitter mass unfollower” is an actual keyword for an actual product. Another option is to find an aged domain that is 4-5+ years old and has a catchy name, the age of the domain helps give it some trust with Google and allows it to rank easier for any niche it happens to become a part of. Either option is perfectly fine no matter what you choose but just be sure you don’t let your domains get to long, more than 3 words is getting to long.
